For years there was peace and harmony among the wolves and horses, despite them being nearly completly different. There had come to be a drought and food shortage. However, only the horses knew exactly where to go to find what they needed.
Over time, the wolves began to relie on the horses for surival. They followed them everywhere. When a horse herd moved, the wolf pack moved. Sadly, an evil bunch of humans hated this. They weren't able to find the wolves or horses to tame/steal/kill because they were nearly invisible to humans. They were out finding that food, that only they knew where was.
The humans began to create a strange substance and take it out into the wilderness to draw animals in. What they didn't know, was that this substance would change animals forever. Slowly, animals smelling the substance came to eat, and one by one, they changed.
Different things changed about the wolves/horses. Perhaps, their pelt, their mortality, anything. In fear the humans ran away and never returned. The wolves and horses bickered and fought amongst themselves, putting imcrimination on eachother for the strange happenings.
In the next few years, Goddesses and Gods came to their aid. They saw the blame and fighting going on and ceased to let it exsist. They tried to bring things to the way they used to be, but failed.
Now sometimes the animals can get along, but sometimes they remember their differences and continue to argue and bicker. The water and food returned soon, but their differences stayed. The Goddesses and Gods then just decided it'd be the best to just leave things as they were, and so they did. Except they named the new species that were created by the humans' ignorance.
A couple of the Gods and Goddesses came to stay in the area to keep watch on the animals to make sure that they might eventually come to a close and be content with their differences.
